Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important representative said the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
